The cobbler of dreams.on the story of Salvatore Ferragamo
At the 77th Venice Film Festival, Luca Guadagnino’s latest film will be presented: Salvatore – Shoemaker of Dreams, dedicated to the designer Salvatore Ferragamo.
It is the story of the great designer born in the small village of Bonito, who immigrated to the United States in search of success and became the most famous shoe designer in Hollywood, dressing the feet of stars like Greta Garbo and Marilyn Monroe. Always in search of ‘shoes that fit perfectly’ he studies human anatomy and chemical engineering.
The documentary traces his rise through the voices of those who knew him, including Martin Scorsese, those who were close to him, the Ferragamo family and great critics and fashion designers. Salvatore – Shoemaker of Dreams shows the mystery and charm of a complex figure, an icon of Italian and world fashion who has never lost sight of the importance of family ties.
The docufilm, with the narrating voice of Michael Stuhlbarg, makes use of unpublished images and testimonies that see protagonists, alongside the members of the Ferragamo family, the director Martin Scorsese, the costume designer Deborah Nadoolman Landis, and numerous scholars, teachers, stylists, journalists, fashion and film critics.
