MFW- Giorgio Armani – Runway “Timeless ideas”

Giorgio Armani: (“Timeless ideas”)

Giorgio Armani’s extraordinary career in fashion was at the center of a hagiographic video that preceded the presentation of the latest collection of Italy’s most famous living designer, shown online. Giorgio Armani has completely avoided any live show in this Milan Fashion Week, but on Saturday night on the Internet he proposed this closed-door show of his signature collection, preceding it with a 15-minute mini-biography of his design and his brand entitled “Timeless Thoughts” (“Timeless Ideas”, ed.). Narrated by actor Pierfrancesco Favino, the movie is a sort of greatest hits of Giorgio’s most special moments: from Armani as a fabric seller and tailor in his luxuriant studio, to interviews in which he exposes his design philosophy to a multitude of big names. “I wanted to evolve my woman and not betray her,” said Armani, referring to his movie star looks 40 years ago.The video features dozens of magazine covers featuring Giorgio and even an HSBC ad; double the number of pictures of movie stars wearing his clothes; Isabelle Huppert, Juliette Binoche, Julia Roberts, Cate Blanchett and the mayor of Milan lavish praise for him. This ready-to-wear collection suited the cast so well, that they looked like tailored tailored suits and individually tailored. A timely reminder that although his aesthetic may have remained somewhat trapped in the golden age of the 1980s and 1990s, Armani’s tailoring skills remain the best of any living designer. Not bad for an 86 year old man.
