GP IMOLA, Race winner Max Verstappen (NLD) Red Bull Racing RB16B celebrates at the end of the race. Formula 1 World Championship, Emilia Romagna Grand Prix,
F1 | Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton is second:
One by one and the ball in the center. Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen have one win each respectively and the challenge for the Formula 1 world championship seems more open than ever. However, it is Lewis Hamilton himself who leads the world championship standings, thanks to the extra point earned for the fastest lap in Imola. The race on the circuit named after Enzo and Dino Ferrari was a mix of luck and bad luck for Hamilton who, starting from pole, gave the leadership of the group to Verstappen already on the first lap. The seven-time world champion sets off in pursuit of his direct rival, but in the thirty-second lap Hamilton loses his W12 going into the gravel at Tosa. Trying to get back on track, he damages his front wing, but that’s when “luck” comes: Bottas and Russell collide in a frightening crash that causes red flag. Hamilton returns to the pits and rebuilds his race from ninth position with medium compound. It is only a matter of time: Sir Lewis returns to the podium, ousting the two Ferraris and Lando Norris, who has to settle for third position. Lewis and Max are still next to each other on the podium and the challenge is more open than ever.
